As a parents we play a big role in supporting them to develop their self- esteem. Feeling loved and valued is essential for your child to feel good about who they are. By supporting their interest encourages them to feel good at something, and helps your child’s self- esteem grow. By spending quality time with your little one they will feel valued. Try not to be too harsh if they make a mistake, mistakes are just part of life, and you want to keep your child’s morale intact. If your child needs to talk, listen, give value to what is being said, this will help your child to feel valued.
A sense of self comes from the experience of being in the mind of others, feeling valued and understood. This is crucial to your child’s self-esteem. If children do not feel understood this can affect feelings of intimacy, trust and attachment later in life.
By telling your child you love them and sharing with them, what make them special, will give them confidence in who they are. Encouraging them to be themselves shows value in who they are, and not what actions they take. Point out all of their strengths and not their weaknesses, and give your child the opportunity to be great, by giving them a job they can complete, and be proud of.
By instilling a sense of belonging and believing in your child, your child will grow to be confident in who they are, and feel like they belong. By creating a positive sense of self in your child, they will feel valued and loved.
What more could you want!
