Meditation is a beautiful tool that may provide them with some comfort and help them in process. It lowers the heart rate, respiratory rate, and also shrinks the part of the brain (the size of a walnut) called the amygdala. This is the part of the brain that’s responsible for the response to stress. Not only does meditating calm and relax the mind, it can also help your little one have sweet dreams too ! Meditating will help them manage their emotions, and become more self-aware of their thoughts, actions and feelings, giving them control and more confidence.

There are a few different types of meditation, I will briefly explain them to you.

Guided meditation is when an adult guides, using tools and visualisation techniques to help imagine a more relaxing place or event. Taking your child out of the moment and into a more beautiful and peaceful one.

Mantra meditation is your child repeating a word or phrase that can be spoken or sung to help focus their attention. By repeating words or phrases such as “I deserve to be happy” or “My happiness is up to me” will help calm their body and mind.

Mindful meditation teaches your child to be fully present and in the moment, this uses the senses to pay attention of thoughts, feelings, and the physical sensations in their body. Focusing on breath, music or yoga.

It’s such a lovely tool to use that can help your child deal with their feelings. When any of my children or young family members are a little grumpy I often use “In with the rainbow, out with the cloud” Just taking a moment with them to stop, and take a good breath in, visulising a bright rainbow full of happiness, then blowing out the cloud of negative feelings they have, works a treat and stops any bad mood progressing! I really hope meditation helps your little one overcome the negative feelings that come with sadness, and may it bring a little happiness into their lives and yours too!

Love Eliza x

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_social_media_follow use_icon_font_size=”on” icon_font_size=”34px” _builder_version=”4.24.0″ _module_preset=”default” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”1em|1em|1em|1em|false|false” custom_padding=”1em|1em|1em|1em|false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_social_media_follow_network social_network=”facebook” url=”https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100076805093162″ _builder_version=”4.24.0″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#3b5998″ global_colors_info=”{}” follow_button=”off” url_new_window=”on”]facebook[/et_pb_social_media_follow_network][et_pb_social_media_follow_network social_network=”instagram” url=”https://www.instagram.com/elizabethallenbooks/” _builder_version=”4.24.0″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#ea2c59″ global_colors_info=”{}” follow_button=”off” url_new_window=”on”]instagram[/et_pb_social_media_follow_network][/et_pb_social_media_follow][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Little ones often feel sad, and it may be an emotion they just don’t understand.
